2026 Energy Storage Going Global: Booming Global Demand Sparks Chinese Enterprises' Global Breakthrough
In 2026, the global energy storage market has entered a period of explosive demand. Leveraging their advantages in technology, cost and industrial chain, Chinese energy storage enterprises have embarked on a new journey of "global breakthrough".
According to the China Energy Storage Industry Globalization Development Report 2026 by the China Energy Research Society, China’s export value of energy storage equipment reached $42.6 billion in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 83%. It is projected to exceed $70 billion in 2026, making overseas markets a major growth engine for China’s energy storage industry.
Statistics on new energy equipment exports from the General Administration of Customs of China confirm this trend: from January to February 2026, China exported 15.8 GWh of lithium-ion battery energy storage systems, up 92% year on year. The exports were shipped to more than 40 countries and regions across Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America and other areas. Europe remained the largest export market, accounting for 45%, mainly driven by policy support for the energy storage industry under the EU’s Net Zero Industry Act. The Middle East market recorded the fastest growth, surging 186% year on year, with large-scale photovoltaic-linked energy storage projects in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries as the primary source of demand.
Strong global demand has created vast opportunities for Chinese energy storage enterprises. Market forecasts for 2026 by the European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE) and the Middle East Energy Agency (MEA) indicate that global installed demand for new energy storage will reach 350 GW in 2026, with overseas orders secured by Chinese companies expected to account for over 40%. Data from China Energy Storage Network’s overseas order monitoring shows that leading domestic energy storage firms have won multiple large-scale overseas projects, with contract values ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of yuan. Their product portfolio covers the entire industrial chain, including energy storage batteries, energy storage systems and energy storage converters.
In the process of "going global", Chinese enterprises are also accelerating localized deployment by establishing production bases and R&D centers overseas to adapt to local market standards and demands. Meanwhile, the completeness of China’s energy storage industrial chain enables enterprises to provide one-stop solutions, forming a unique edge in international competition. In 2026, China’s energy storage industry will further accelerate its globalization, shifting from product exports to technology export and standard export, and establishing itself as a core leader in the global energy storage sector.
